T1/E1 Telecom and Analog I/O Modules Introduced by CAC

PCI Modules Support the V6M6 RISC Processor VME Board

Allentown, PA. June 21, 1996. Communication Automation & Control (CAC) announced today several additions to its line of PCI modules for the V6M6 RISC Processor VMEbus board.

The IM2T1 module implements two full-duplex 1.544 Mbps T1 interfaces. The module uses a pair of Dallas Semiconductor DS2151s the supports both short haul (DSX) connections and long lines up to 6000 feet. The IM2T1 includes a PCI target interface, which allows the user to configure, control, and interrogate the DS2151s from the VMEbus interface, or from processor modules on the V6M6 board. The serial T1 data is connected to a separate TDM (Time Division Multiplexed) bus on the carrier board for deliver to processors on the same board or to other VME processor boards.

Also available is the IM2E1 module which is similar to the IM2T1, except that it implements 2.048 Mbps E1/CEPT interfaces. It is designed around a pair of Dallas Semiconductor DS2153 E1 interfaces and includes robust overvoltage protection and isolation circuits for connecting to E1 lines of up to 1500 feet.

Another module announced today is the IMHC4, which implements fours high-quality input and output analog audio interfaces. Utilizing two Crystal Semiconductor CS4231A stereo codecs, it supports balanced differential inputs and outputs. Sample rates are programmable to 48 kHz with resolutions of 8-bit linear, 8-bit mu- or A-law, and 16-bit linear. A PCI target interface allows for control of the CS4231A's, while the digitized data is connected serially to the TDM bus on the V6M6 board.

Introduced six months ago, the CAC Model V6M6 VME carrier board offers memory resources and six plug-in module sites to configure performance and memory capacity to the application's requirements. Besides the new modules announced today, the board supports CAC's 32-bit and 64-bit MIPS RISC processor and memory upgrade PCI modules.

"These new modules complement our V6M6 RISC Processor VME Board and enhance its usefulness to our customers," said Jim Bridges, CAC's President. "We plan to introduce additional modules in the coming months to provide fully integrated solutions to our customers' data acquisition, signal processing and telecom problems," he added.
