 QuicKit Telephony

Overview

Our goal is to produce the most powerful, scalable, flexible, configurable, rapid prototyping board level toolkits for research design and development engineers in the signal processing community.

We accomplish our goals through three methods:

Configurable Off the Shelf Kits

The concept of our QuicKit® architecture built into a series of products makes it possible torapidly produce high-performance, multi-channel systems that meet our customers' specific requirements. Our small form-factor smPCI®Modules gives us maximum flexibility to assemble a customized end product with the highest density DSP boards in the industry.

VME Environment

VME64X hotswap base board and 6 PM4700a RISC processors.
VME64X base board can support up to 6 modules with TI C6203,
TI C6202, TI C5441, TI C5420, or TI12C549 DSPs,
IDT MIPS R4700a processor, IDT MIPS R5000 processor, PMC-Sierra R7000 processor,
Xilinx Virtex FPGA, and telephony interfaces for ATM OC-3,
T1, E1, (T1/E1), 100 BaseT Ethernet, and SCSA.

V6M6 base board shown with six smPCI modules.

The V6M6 baseboard or V6M6HS baseboard consists of a VME master/slave interface, global DRAM, a local 100 Mbyte/sec PCI bus and four TDM (Time-Division Multiplexed) serial buses for inter-module, inter-board communications.

Compact PCI Environment

compactPCI (C6M6) base board can support up to 6 modules with
TI6203, TI C6202, TI C5441, TI C5420, or TI C549 DSPs,
IDT MIPS R4700a processor, IDT MIPS R5000 processor, PMC-Sierra R7000 processor,
Xilinx Virtex FPGA, telephony interfaces for ATM OC-3,
T1, E1,(T1/E1), and network interfaces for 100 BaseT Ethernet,
Switched Fabric Ethernet and StarFabric.

C6M6 Baseboard with IMATM, DM5420, PM7000 and three DM6202 smPCI modules

The powerful new C6M6 baseboard houses the control and communications infrastructure of this chassis mounted, full hot swap, Compact PCI peripheral board. On-board each C6M6 is a MIPS Cronus processor, global and flash memory, and six smPCI module sites. Two on-board buses, PCI and TDM, route data among the various resources. Backplane interfaces include the hot swap cPCI bus, an H.110 , a cPSB (Packet Switching Backplane), and a StarFabric.

Architecture Advantages
The QuicKit architecture offers several significant advantages over conventional board layouts. With six module sites, you can ...

... modularize
A new board can be designed simply by populating it with off-the-shelf modules. Start with a base board with 32M, 64M, or 128M bytes of global DRAM. Then mix and match integer and floating-point processors with memory and I/O modules to exactly meet your system requirements. Our current offering of off-the-shelf components includes fixed and floating point DSPs, RISC processors, telephony and audio interfaces as well as special purpose modules. We are continuously adding to our large selection of plug-in modules as technologies evolve and our customers bring new requirements to our attention.

... modernize
A board can easily be reconfigured to meet changing system requirements or to be used on a completely different project. Processor modules can be replaced as faster chips become available, thus extending the life of the base board and other modules.

... economize
Common modules offer economy in inventory, software development and repair time.

... customize
Application requirements which need additional functionality not already available in an existing module can be satisfied by designing a single new module rather than a whole new board.

Performance Tuned Modularity

Our smPCI modules are small in size and big in performance. The smPCI modules are removable circuit packs featuring a selection of processors, memory, I/O and specialized functions.

Our on-board PCI bus provides up to a 100MB/sec communications path from the module to the base board's global memory as well as a path to the VME, PCI, or Compact PCI interface. All DSP and RISC modules, as well as the 100baseT module, have PCI bus mastering capability.

Dual Bus Framework

In addition to the underlying host bus (VME, PCI, or Compact PCI) our unique TDM bus technology performs highly efficient data routing between multiple processors and mezzanine modules.
As you can see in the VME bus example in the diagram below, we facilitate data flow to and from modules through both the TDM Bus and the PCI Bus.

Communication Automation Corporation base board architecture.
The base board holds the technology infrastructure that supports
specific small mezzanine PCI modules for telephony interface,
digital signal processing (DSP), data processing,
audio, or memory expansion.

If you have a specific
configuration requirement ,
we would be happy to contact you.
