About Us

Who We Are and What We Do

Communication Automation Corporation (CAC or CACorp) is a small business located in a suburb of Philadelphia. We design, build, test, sell, and support commercial hardware for the optical telecommunications industry. Our products range in functionality from optical signal conditioning to high-speed signal processing and switching.

Our History

CAC began in the late 1980s as a provider of low-cost DSP Development Kits, including custom PC plug-in boards and SDKs (Software Development Kits) for DIY DSP developers. The company’s focus gradually expanded into cost-effective solutions for the emerging digital telephony market. In the early 90s, CAC’s popularity continued to grow and the applications continued to get more complex. It was around this time that CAC joined forces with another small company, Woodward McCoach, Inc. (WMI). A major outcome from that partnership was the development of a family of high-density, multi-channel DSP solutions based on the VME platform. By 2001, the telecommunication market was changing, and the joint venture of CAC/WMI began to focus on hardware solutions for optical telecom applications. The joint venture was so successful that the two companies eventually merged. As of January 1, 2013, Communication Automation Corporation became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Woodward McCoach, Inc. CAC now operates as the business arm of WMI and is responsible for all purchasing, sales, marketing, and customer service.

What We Sell

CAC has a deep working knowledge of the optical networking market. The products we produce today reflect our understanding of this application space. In brief, we currently manufacture hardware that falls into one of these three basic categories:

  • Optical signal conditioning modules, including amplifiers, filters, modulators, demodulators, and signal regenerators.
  • High-speed data processing blades and switch blades, including network processors.
  • High-speed data recorders.

The flexibility of our hardware platforms allows us to introduce new products that tackle new problems relatively quickly. And, we support everything that we sell.
